An Introduction to Product-Making GMPs, Claims & More

Let’s wrap our head around the laws we as herbalists are expected to follow. We’ll briefly discuss our legal limitations as clinical herbalists and educators and then delve into the much deeply into the maddeningly complex world of regulations regarding making, selling, and marketing herbal products.

While we mention basics of food versus dietary supplement rules as they pertain to herbal products, we will focus primarily on an overview on the requirements of the FDA’s dietary supplement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), label laws, health vs structure-function vs drug claims, etc.

This is a huge topic, but you’ll leave with a solid understanding of what’s expected as well as a slew of free and low-cost resources to help you on your path to a legal compliant herb biz (if you don’t decide after hearing all of this that maybe you don’t want to sell products after all…)
