Accessibility is at the heart of herbal medicine. In order to be an accessible and inclusive practitioner, we have to ask ourselves - who do I want to access my services, and what are the specific barriers that they face? Barriers include physical, financial, technological and cultural, and differ based on each person’s lived experience. It can be easy for us to be inaccessible without realizing it to people who have different needs. How can we set up our practice and consultations in a way that is accessible, welcoming and respectful for each person’s unique needs? How can we adapt or respond to barriers as they arise? How can we improve the accessibility of our clinic and educational spaces while centering sustainability over the long term, as professionals who have to balance our values with making a living? This class will provide practical and concrete skills and models you can put into practice now to better welcome and support a diversity of clients. The framework of this class will be taught through a client-centered, anti-racist lens, grounded in the belief that accessible community based herbalism can help us build collective resilience during the challenges of our times.
